Interests: I mean, who isn’t interested in rescuing lost animals?? (And Prompto’s even done it in canon)
In all seriousness, I’m really hoping to get into the pretty action-y stuff: the battles, close calls, and near brushes with death. Political intrigue and whatnot is all well and good too, though it’s not so much up Prompto’s alley. Really, anything that gets everyone involved is what I’d love to participate in and see done.

Canon World
Prompto’s world is called Eos, and it’s made up of three continents: Lucis, Accordo, and Niflheim. They each have a nation that bears a similar name (Accordo Proctorate, Kingdom of Lucis and Niflheim Empire). There used to be additional nations, including the Tenebrae Province, before they were absorbed by the Niflheim Empire. Six Astrals (basically gods) watch over the world. They are often referred to as “the Six” by the residents of Eos. In each generation, there is an Oracle who can commune with the gods on behalf of the people. She is always a woman, and she comes from the Fleuret family that used to rule the Tenebrae Province.
In the distant past, it was prophesized that a king, chosen by the Crystal that resides in Lucis, would one day rise up and banish the encroaching darkness forever. It would be the duty of the Oracle to help him and guide him along his path. A few thousand years before the events of the game, a plague called the Starscourge struck Eos. It resulted in the rise of daemons, creatures of darkness that prey on the living. It was thought the prophecy would come true during this time, but it did not. It would not come to fruition until thousands of years later.
Niflheim began a campaign of aggressive expansion a few hundred years before the game’s start, defeating nearby countries and annexing them. The Empire discovered the secret to making magitek soldiers, seemingly robotic soldiers that are easily mass produced. This gave them a huge advantage, allowing them in the ensuing years to eventually overtake the Proctorate and drive the Kingdom of Lucis down to its Crown City, where a wall fueled by the power of the Crystal surrounded the city and kept the Empire’s forces at bay for decades.
Shortly after the game’s start, the Empire tricked the King of Lucis, Regis, into a peace treaty signing. Part of the “peace agreement” was that Prince Noctis was to marry the current Oracle, Lunafreya. Before the imperial officials arrived in Insomnia to sign the treaty, Regis sent Noctis with Prompto, along with his retainer and bodyguard, to meet Lunafreya in Accordo and seal the marriage. The peace treaty, as everyone found out the hard way, was actually a gambit to get inside the wall and attack the city. Regis was killed in the assault, and Insomnia, the Crown City, taken over by imperial forces. Noctis and his retinue learned about it on the road, and they set off to reclaim the throne and drive the imperials out of Lucis.
History
Prompto's wiki link
Prompto was born in the Niflheim Empire as a test subject for military warfare. Through means not explained, he somehow wound up being adopted as a baby by a family living in Insomnia. He has a barcode on his wrist, marking him as one of Niflheim’s test subjects. He kept his past a secret, given Lucis’ history with the Empire, and covered up his code with a wristband.
Prompto spent much of his childhood alone. His parents were rarely at home, and he was too shy to make any friends at school. He developed a love of photography and eating junk food, making him overweight. In middle school, he came across an injured dog on his way home one day. He took it in and nursed it back to health, tying a handkerchief with a name around its leg. The dog left when it recovered. It turned out that the dog belonged to Lunafreya, the Oracle. The dog was on its way to deliver a message to Noctis, Prince of Lucis, when it got injured. By the handkerchief tied to its leg, Lunafreya managed to find out who took care of her dog, and sent a letter to Prompto thanking him. She also asked him to befriend Noctis, hoping he could have a normal friend outside of his royal retinue.
Spurred by her request, Prompto worked up the courage to talk to Noctis. After meeting him and stumbling to the ground, Noct picked him up and remarked that he was heavy. Though embarrassed, Prompto decided he would lose weight and only by doing that could he work on becoming Noctis’ friend. Once they reached high school, having lost quite a bit of weight, Prompto greeted him as if they hadn’t met before, and the two became friends.
That friendship earned him a spot alongside Noctis and his retinue when he was set off to marry Lunafreya. After they received word that Insomnia was taken over by the Empire and King Regis was killed, Prompto stuck by Noctis as he began his journey to reclaim his throne, and also fulfill his destiny as the chosen king of prophecy. They traveled all over Eos, finding ancestral weapons of past Lucian kings and conferring with Astrals, all in order to help Noctis grow stronger and take on the Empire. He took photos of their journey, to document their time together and to practice his photography skills. Prompto’s cheery attitude kept the group’s spirits high – or at least, helped them laugh, a lot of the time at his own expense. Despite the hardships and tribulations they faced – being attacked by imperial forces repeatedly, losing their car for a time, dealing with a creepy Chancellor who seemed to be stalking them, and the disaster and heartbreak at Altissia – Prompto did his best to keep everyone smiling and help them out.
Personality
The once shy, awkward boy who lived alone reshaped himself into an energetic, spirited young man who does his best to keep his and his friends’ spirits up, even in the darkest of times. After Lunafreya’s death and Ignis’ injury, he keeps taking photos and tries to keep the group from tearing itself apart, attempting to dispel Noctis and Gladio’s arguments. While they were caught up in their bickering, he was the one looking after the blinded Ignis and helping him walk over unsteady terrain.
Prompto is perhaps the most talkative of the group, singing little made up songs and commenting on what’s going on around them as they walk. Often times he’s also complaining, either about walking so much, his hair getting ruined in the rain, or being winded after battles. Unlike the other three, Prompto only learned to fight rather recently, so he’s a lot clumsier and less sure of himself while in battle.
Prompto loves animals, though he specifically points out that he does not like wildlife, he’s “more of a pet guy”. He especially loves chocobos. When the gang travels near a chocobo farm, Prompto begs Noctis to take a detour so they could see the chocobos. He insists on taking missions if it helps a chocobo or any animal.
He describes himself as a bit of a ladies’ man, though it would be more accurate to say that he develops crushes very easily and very quickly. After only speaking with Cindy a few times, he gets starry-eyed over her, repeatedly saying that she’s the best and that she’s so amazing. The same thing happens with Aranea after they meet, and she fought them the first time they met.
That sunny exterior of his belies a huge well of self-doubt and a desperate need to prove and earn his place amongst his friends. He has a very poignant chat with Noctis on the roof of a hotel during their travels in which he confesses that he feels like a complete outsider and is desperate to earn his place. Having been alone for so long, he wants so badly to belong with them, to be an accepted and equal member of their group. He laments that he doesn’t see himself as particularly special, comparing himself to Ignis’ amazing cooking and tactical skills, and to Gladio’s way of interacting with people. It’s says something about him that he doesn’t consider his own skills in photography and his willingness to help others in need as anything worthy. Instead, he sets an impossibly high standard for himself.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths:
Prompto primarily uses guns and is a good marksman, able to aim and shoot in battle and other high stress situations. His other weapon is machinery, whether it’s auto crossbows or circular saws. He’s also something of a technophile, especially with cameras and photography, though that particular trait may not do him much good in Thedas.
He’s a good team player. He’s used to working with and fighting in a group, and once he’s comfortable with someone, he’s good at reading them and coordinating his moves and attacks in battle. Though he’s never been involved in an organization like the Inquisition, he understands the importance of world politics and maintaining peace, and he also knows all too well what happens when that breaks down.
Despite his reservations and occasional complaining, he does like helping people and is willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
Though Thedas lacks chocobos, and he’ll pout over that for awhile, he’ll eventually warm up to the native animals and probably take a liking to them, so he’d also be willing to help with taking care of them.
Weaknesses:
Prompto can be a bit of a chicken shit, honestly. If someone really scary looking comes along, like Ravus, he’ll hide behind someone bigger and stronger than him. He can be easily intimidated and is prone to panicking if he’s way in over his head.
Though he’s gotten better and more accustomed to combat, he’s no veteran. He still stumbles and accidentally hits people during battle, and he’ll get more winded easily than others who are more experienced at it then he is.
He tends to put on a brave face and try to keep up a positive attitude, even when things aren’t going well. While it’s meant to keep spirits up, sometimes it can come across as ignoring the problem and it also leads him to keeping his own troubles to himself. Yes, he generally complains about minor things, but the deep issues that truly bother him do not get spoken about until he’s either forced or he reaches a high comfort level with someone. It took him years before he was able to express to Noctis how much of an outsider he felt amongst his retinue.
Arrival Inventory
All Prompto will have are the clothes on his back, some gil in his pocket, his phone (which will be utterly useless) and his camera. His weapons will be lost within the transition to Thedas.

Fit
Tossing Prompto into any game without his friends provides an opportunity to really test his character and see what he would do without his only friends around to lend him a helping hand. My hope is that eventually Prompto will learn to embrace his strengths as a person and forge his own place amongst the Inquisition, and even amongst any friends he’ll make here. He’s so desperate to prove himself to Noctis and the others, but it seems like he’s set himself up to fail by comparing himself to a prince chosen by destiny to save the world, a man who was raised to be a royal bodyguard, and another man who was groomed and schooled to advise a king his whole life. Here, he might have a chance to prove himself in a setting he’s somewhat familiar with. Not the medieval fantasy part, but rather being part of an ongoing effort to save the world, though it’ll be interesting to see him be part of a large organization, rather than just amongst a small group of people.
Given that he’s from a modern fantasy setting, throwing him into a medieval fantasy world will shove him out of his comfort zone, and maybe act as a bit of a foil to the setting and the native characters of the place. If possible, his knowledge about machines and technology might be of some help, depending on what’s done in the game and if there’s a way for him to utilize his knowledge. If nothing else, a modern person stumbling around in a medieval setting and complaining loudly about it is always fun to play out.
