[Makes sense. Getting through the Keep and reaching the Crystal ranked a lot higher than Prompto telling them about his little adventure in the facility.
It feels like his stomach plummeted to the ground. Eternal night? Does that mean...?]
But, I thought we were gonna avoid that. Didn't we - were we too late? Did it not work?
[Ignis is quiet for a moment, as he searches for the right way to explain what happened. It seemed so impossible now that he had to put words to it.]
It is not that it didn't work. It's that it didn't work the way we hoped. Noct was able to find the Crystal, and he tried to claim its power.
It, however, seemed to think him not quite ready. [He has to pause again, because somehow telling this to Prompto made his own emotions leap to his throat. He shifted a bit, cleared it, and tried to speak gently around the lump forming in his chest.]
We've no idea where he is now, but he will return and that will be the day he brings back the light.
[Ignis sounds sure in this. He speaks without weaving in his faith in their King. He ignores the way his chest stings and focuses his attention on Prompto, listening to any hint of how the blond responds.]
[He listens. What else can he do? This future's laid out before him, and Prompto sinks lower into his chair, as if Ignis's words physically weigh him down. So it's not over. After everything they went through, and they still had more to go. That's really not what he hoped to hear.]
Even after all of that... wow. [He blows out a breath.] Do you know how long it'll be, before he comes back?
[He has a feeling Ignis won't, but it's worth asking.]
[Ignis's head tilts a bit as he sees a fireside in the future, Noct with long hair and a beard that he'll never actually see in person. Years would pass before the day returned.]
No. No one knows for sure. I've been attempting to hunt down information about the Crystal, to discover any hints in our history that would give us some idea.
[He dreads to think of what that crazy bat will be doing while Noct sleeps inside the Crystal. But he has to ask. He has to know, even as much as he fears it.]
Yeah. "Interesting". [He knows he means actual magic and not the mages, but that's what he associates it with, and he has Thoughts about the treatment of mages here.] Have you heard about the Circles and everything that happened with them?
I have heard. It sounds terrible. I take it your lady love was forced into
one of those towers? [There is a slight tease in the term 'lady
love' but otherwise he treats the subject with the weight it
deserves.]
Uhhh... the short of it? Kirkwall Circle was super bad, oppressed the mages to the point where an apostate blew up the Chantry to kickstart a battle. Lot of people died. [It's drastically simplifying it, but even Prompto doesn't know everything.] The knight-commander of the Templars called for an annulment of the Circle - meaning they kill every mage in there. They all had to fight for their lives and flee.
For instance, you've never pushed me to speak of things I would rather leave unsaid. [He doesn't need to gesture to his face, they both know how little Ignis has really shared about what happened to his eyes. It's a marvel he's even alluding to it now.] That has made me feel comforted. I feel no pressure to share things I would rather not.
At the same time, I know if I ever did feel the urge to relive the worst moments I can remember, to get them off my chest so to say, that you would be there to listen.
[Awww. Well now he feels all warm and fuzzy. Prompto knows what it's like, though, to not want to talk about things. That's why he doesn't push too much. Sometimes he nudges, but he tries not to go too far.]
You're gonna make me blush, Iggy.[Though, his smile falls a bit as he continues: ] That said, if you are ever ready to talk about stuff, you know where to find me. A lot's happened back home.
Yeah. I kinda wish we had an Inquisition-like force back home to help turn things around. Though I don't know who could have stood up to the empire. Guess if there was a time to stop them, it was a long time ago.
Might be easier said than done. This place... I know Eos has a lot of problems, but a lot comes from the empire and what they've done. Here? It's like a thousand different threads, all entangled with each other. Threads with teeth and a lot of prejudice.

Our focus is on protecting the citizens from the daemons who revel in an endless night.

[Now he just wants to shoot something. Or maybe even punch something. He's not prone to violence but this? This is a bit much.]
Well, that makes me officially not entirely looking forward to going back home.

[Normally he might comment about the lady love part, but this is a bit too serious to bring that up.]

We have a chance to help another world avoid that fate. That is what matters while we are here.
[Matters more than him sharing things he'll likely never give words to, anyway.]
