Works fine. --And I'll want to hear more about this "video" thing when you get here. [His voice is thoughtful.] We've been talking about how to make the crystals more useful and that sounds like something worthwhile to have.
---
[As promised, Myr's waiting for Prompto at the designated room, leaning on his staff outside the open door. (A peek through reveals he'd somehow managed to get refreshments even on such short notice; there's a gently sweating pitcher on the table beside two mugs and a plate of almond cookies.)
He lifts his head at the sound of footsteps, face turned in the rifter's direction. The hallway's not so busy that he's confident in guessing,] Serah Argentum?
[It sure is Prompto, who's surprised to find Myr not only standing there waiting for him, but, well...
Now he kind of feels like an ass for said earlier comment. Sorry Myr! But having dealt with Ignis and his blindness, while it's good to be honest and upfront about it, he knows there's also no reason to unnecessarily bring that up and apologize for something he didn't know about. Myr probably gets enough comments about it on the street.]
That's me. [He walks up to him, smiling.] Okay, am I crazy or do I smell- [He happens to glance into the room and yep, there they are.] Cookies. Mmmmmm.
You're not crazy, [he replies, with his usual sunny smile.] What's a meeting without refreshments? Come in, sit--the seat nearer the door, if you would.
[He gestures the younger man inside the room before him, following after and finding his way unerringly to the other chair--dusting the faintest tracery of a glyph from the back of it before taking his seat.]
So where would you prefer to start, other'n with the cookies? A little more about your world, or this "video" you mentioned.
[Prompto walks in before him, taking the suggested seat. He catches Myr doing... something with the back of the chair, he has no idea what.]
Definitely cookie first while I try to think of how to describe it. [Explaining technology to Thedosians is never an easy process. He takes a cookie, thanking Myr for them before taking a bite and chewing thoughtfully as he mulls over his words.] So, I'm not an expert in how it works entirely, but we have the means of capturing, or recording, images in my world through a device called a camera. I have one here, it came with me when I fell through the rift. Through the capture and manipulation of light, it can record a still image and press it on paper. It's like freezing a moment in time. Video is like that, but it can record moving images over a length of time. So rather than just one moment, it can record minutes or even hours.
[He busies himself with pouring out drinks as Prompto explains, before claiming a cookie of his own.] Huh. So it's something like a painting, but done quick enough you can string them all together like that? Or--creating an illusion, but it's flattened down by this device?
And this is common enough you use them to talk to each other at a distance? [Which isn't so unlike some kinds of scrying, but that's hardly common.]
More like a painting. It's not an illusion because it's real. The camera basically "catches" the light that bounces off of everything and it's preserved on the film inside the camera.
[It's a fair bit more complicated than that, but even Prompto's not an expert on the science behind it.]
And video captures images and sounds. So you can see and hear what was going on in that moment.
Catches the light, [he echoes, before lapsing into a thoughtful silence.] --Well. Sounds we can already do, it's the images bit we'd have to work on. Not impossible, if we get the right people on it...
[He trails off, shakes his head, and flashes the younger man a slightly sheepish smile.] Sorry--getting carried away there. But a, [brief hesitation] friend and I have got plans to improve the sending crystals, and this sounds like it'd be a useful addition to them. Would you be game to join us on the project?
[Prompto raises a brow, quite curious as Myr mumbles a bit to himself. He honestly doesn't know how they would manage it. Then again, they have some interesting magic here. Perhaps something to do with that?
Either way, he perks up a bit at the offer.] Yeah, absolutely! Having video would be a huge plus, trust me. Best way to document evidence... and to embarrass your friends. [He chuckles.] What else did you plan to do to improve them?
Is that so? [Myr's expression becomes one of exaggerated concern as he picks up another cookie.] Maybe I ought to take this one back to the drawing board for consideration before I unleash the forces of embarrassment on the Inquisition like that.
[He's teasing; he can't keep from breaking back into a grin that defuses the words entirely.] Oh, lots--though we're still tossing ideas out to see what sticks. Spells for locating them, sending messages to yourself so you've got a record in your own voice, having a way not to listen to all the chatter that goes on if you've only got your crystal for emergencies--and so on, and so on. [He gestures with the cookie, then takes a neat bite of it.
Once he's finished, he resumes:] Is there something else you think would make 'em easier to use? It sounds as if you've got a similar sort of thing back home--is that so?
Probably be the responsible thing to do, but you know, sometimes you just gotta be a little irresponsible. Let chaos reign a bit. [Also teasing, having caught on to Myr's grin. Besides, the Inquisition is always so orderly and rigid. A bit of fun could go a long way to lighten things up.
Myr's ideas are good ones, and ones his world has in some form or another. Just with technology, not with magic.]
We do. Just not with crystals. They're called phones where I'm from. I have one with me from home, though it doesn't work anymore. No power left in it to use it. [Not that he could do much with it here, anyway.]
